After some struggles to earn promotion to the Bundesliga 1, Munich 1860 signed another American, reports Kicker. Striker, Josh Wolff, will be relied on to score goals in close matches to help the team escape second division soccer.

The Lions are currently only four points short of earning promotion. The team counts on a strong backline led by American defender, Gregg Berhalter, who appeared for the U.S. National Team in World Cups 2002 and 2006.

The former captain of Energie Cottbus helped the East German team climb into the Bundesliga 1 last season, only to remain in the Bundeliga 2 by signing with Munich 1860.

Wolff will join his American comrade after several successful campaigns in Major League Soccer. Wolff was a Fire original and played 84 matches for Chicago. While in the Windy City, the young striker tallied 32 goals.

After his success in Chicago, the Georgia native moved to Kansas City to play for the Wizards. While with the Wizards, Wolff put in 27 goals in 80 matches.

In 2003, Wolff suffered a meniscus tear and ankle injury which slowed his blistering pace significantly. However, the forward finished his last three MLS seasons healthy. Wolff scored 25 goals in the past three seasons with the Wizards and all but maxed out his salary under the league's tight cap.

Like most European teams, 1860 only signed the striker to an 18 month contract. The reasons for the short contract are multi-fold.

Few European teams will give any player pushing 30 more than a one year deal. The belief is by that age most players, especially forwards, are finished. Wolff is 29.

Munich 1860 also struggles with budget issues. Despite the team's recent success, previous pushes toward the “Big Show” have hurt Munich's funds. The team simply can't afford to issue a big contract.

Wolff is an American. Although signing American players is becoming more common in Europe, it is still viewed as a gamble. Despite appearing in two World Cups, Munich will keep in mind that he only scored once in both.

For Wolff, this move is elementary. His salary is largely fixed in the MLS, and he's still fairly young. For the forward to start preparing for retirement, he needed to go abroad. This move will help him further develop his on-field smarts and ideally help him establish a comfortable nest egg.

If you are a soccer player in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy then you are extremely lucky. The U.S. Soccer Development Academy is the best youth soccer league in the country. Each season in the development academy is thirty games long and the best teams will qualify for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy playoffs. Each game is extremely important because every time you win you are helping your team get a step closer to winning a national soccer championship. For this very reason, it is important to understand how to prepare for a game in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy League. Many players think that if they get a good nights sleep and eat well they are doing all they need to prepare for a youth soccer game. The fact of the matter is that much more must be done to prepare properly for a game in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.

First, you need to take care of your body from a nutritional stand point. The night before your youth soccer game you should drink as much water as you possibly can. Even if you are not thirsty you should still drink a ton of water. Being hydrated is the key to having a lot of energy come for your U.S. Soccer Development Academy League game. You should drink water until your urine is clear. If your urine is clear it means that your body is completely hydrated. You should also have a complete and full meal the night before your U.S. Soccer Development Academy League game. Most players think that it is important to have a full meal a few hours before a youth soccer game. The fact of the matter is that your pre game meal is truly the meal that you eat the night before the game. The reason for this is that it takes twelve to twenty four hours for your digestive system to convert food to energy. Aside from a nutritional stand point, you should prepare for the game mentally.

The night before your game, you should visualize yourself playing in the game. When you are visualizing yourself playing in your U.S. Soccer Development Academy game you should visualize yourself playing well. There are two different ways that you can visualize yourself playing in your U.S. Soccer Development Academy game. These two visualization methods involve first person visualization and third person visualization. For third person visualization you should visualize yourself playin well as if you were someone in the stands watching yourself play. For first person visualization you should visualizing yourself playing well as if you were seeing it though your own eyes. This visualization will help give you the confidence to play well during your U.S. Soccer Development Academy games!

It's impossible to play Facebook games without sitting back and wondering about the pools of cash the big-wigs at Zynga must be bathing in, but Playfish think they can do even better. COO Sebastien de Halleux told Venture Beat his company plans to hit the billion dollar mark with their first Facebook adaptation of EA's huge World Cup 2010 game, “FIFA Superstars.”

“We think Facebook can deliver a billion-dollar hit on the scale of the film Avatar. It's early days, but we're serious about it.”

Announced last week, Halleux announced that people shouldn't be expecting a straight port of the game. Details are currently extremely limited on this exciting soccer project.

“The trick is not to launch a role-playing game with a brand and hope it works. It won't. You have to understand what the brand means to users. It's how to weave an offline passion into an online activity for all of those people in the world who are not gamers. How do you extend social experiences into a platform like Facebook. That is what we are building on.”

Expect to see this one in time for the big-kick off on 11 June, and to feature all of the licenses that make the EA title's so authentic.

Little is known about national team from North Korea.

Thanks to the secretive nature of communist North Korea, the abilities of their national team competing in the 2010 FIFA World Cup are somewhat unknown, although they did enjoy a good World Cup qualifying campaign.

They finished second in their group behind their neighbors, South Korea, and ahead of Saudi Arabia on goal difference. Their reward was hardly a friendly welcome back to the World Cup, with Brazil, Portugal, and the Ivory Coast all teams of the highest quality.

The last time North Korea made it this far was in 1966. Such was the impact made by the players (including, apparently, on the local young ladies) in the north of England that a superb documentary following the surviving teammates, ‘The Game of Their Lives,’ was made in 2002.

Coincidentally, the game they are remembered for was against their opponents for 2010, Portugal. 3-0 up after 25 minutes of their quarter-final, North Korea were first pegged back and then destroyed by the power of the peerless Eusebio, who scored four in an eventual 5-3 win.

The good performances by North Korean women’s teams at international age group World Cups, winners at under-17 level and runners-up at under-20, is indicative of the fact that the country has football talent and good coaching. However, some of their results in 2009 were not as encouraging.

There were a couple of head-scratching defeats mixed in among what was generally a good run of results; a 1-0 loss to Lebanon at home and a 4-1 defeat in Zambia topped the list. Overall, in 2009, North Korea won six matches, drew four, and lost three.

North Korea’s strength is a stingy defense that allowed only 7 goals throughout their entire qualifying campaign, but then again, they weren’t facing offenses featuring FIFA’s World Player of the Year for 2007 (Kaka, Brazil), 2008 and runner-up 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), or Ivory Coast’s all-time top scorer, Didier Drogba.

They emerged from the third round of qualifying unbeaten and without conceding a single goal, yet still finished second in Group 3 behind South Korea based on goal differential, which may demonstrate a lack of attacking options.

North Korea’s biggest obstacle, however (other than the Group of Death itself), is their lack of international experience, with the mainstay of their squad plying their trade domestically, but this could also work in their favor since opponents will not be used to their style of play.

North Korea’s key players are Russian-based forward Hong Yong-Jo, the team’s captain, he is the only member of the squad who plays professionally in Europe and he will have to repeat the form that saw him score 4 goals during AFC qualifying if his side hopes to compete in South Africa. He is joined up top by Jong Tae-Se, an explosive threat with a fierce shot and the strength to brush off opposing defenders, inspiring the media to dub him the ”Asian Wayne Rooney.”

Marcell Jansen Trikot

In Glasgow, Scotland on vacation I saw the French national soccer team, Les Bleus, lose to Scotland 1-0 in the Euro 2008 qualifying match. Being in Scotland it would seem to be a joyous occasion, drinks all around, numerous intoxicated renditions of the Scottish anthem. Yet I walked slowly back to my hostel in a serious sense of confusion and disarray. This wasn't supposed to happen, France had beat Italy only weeks before in a qualifying match, the World Cup Champions, but now they had just lost to a team that had failed to make the World Cup! If Scotland had beaten any other team while I was there I would have been ecstatic. But this was France, so with a greasy plate of fish-n-chips and the threat of a morning hangover, I alone walked out of the festivities.

For years I had loved soccer, both playing it and watching it. Unfortunately, living in the U.S.A, opportunities to watch soccer were limited. So, part of the reason for me taking Spanish classes was to watch the Mexican soccer games on Telemundo. My favorite team to watch however, was les Bleus. 1994 was the first World Cup I saw, and most of what I remember was being ridiculed by any other soccer fan who was rooting for my own national team, USA. My support for the French was unwavering though, solidified with knowledge of a host of French ancestors. In 1998 I relished the most spectacular moment in my sports fan history, watching as the French led by Zidane blazed through the world cup stages and won it all in a 3-0 upset victory over the favored Brazilians. It was bliss, and there was nothing that anybody in America could say.

After watching such a huge moment for Les Bleus I began to follow the team closer, checking scores of games I couldn't watch at the tail end of Sportcenter. Yet I saw the European Championship win in 2000 and that only added more fuel to my fan fire, to the point that when the 2002 World Cup began, I was hopelessly hooked. Not that I really thought it was much of a risk, I was backing the best team…

Most people seem to root for the underdogs if its not their favorite team, and outside of France the fans of Les Bleus are few. Yet Senegal was more than just an underdog, they were almost guaranteed no points out of the game. So I sat down excited to see another uniquely French soccer victory.

I don't try to remember much after the game, after the word loss had been pounded into my head, my ears ringing with “Upset.” I slipped nearly as low as the French team did as they went on to compile one mere point and be knocked out of the group. Then in 2004 Les Bleus won every Euro qualifying game, a perfect 24 points, yet failed to win. My support tried to waver, but I would not let it break.

The 2006 World Cup held my attention for every game, not just the games with the French, and I grew to appreciate the Cup as a whole. Yet the French were doing good, and after beating favorites Brazil I couldn't see anything stopping them from a second World Cup victory. But it was not to be, Italy won on penalty kicks in the final, and that's all I have to say about that.

This qualification for Euro 2008 really isn't so bad, The French are in second but tie Scotland for points total at nine each. So maybe Les Bleus will go far again, as they have done, just hopefully they can finish on top and lighten my heavy stress.

5 Ridiculously Expensive Apple Gadgets You Won't Believe Are Real

May 20th, 2010

Pudú and Laptop Outdoors by Lizette Greco

Ipad

I've decided to do a product comparison from an average Joe, Mac user point of view. All techno specs aside I will be conducting this comparison between the Logitech V200 and the Apple Mighty Mouse. I'm going to be honest, this article states a point. The Logitech is a cheaper, more efficient mouse than the Mighty Mouse, this is why…

First, I would like to discuss the Mighty Mouse. Bluetooth enabled, sleek, smooth, and efficient, the Mighty Mouse was impressive as soon as it out of the box. If you've never used one before it is a bit different I must say. The clicking motion is more of a flick of the wrist downwards instead of the traditional click of any other mouse. It took a while to get used to but I did prefer it over the traditional mouse click. Of course the left click is annoying because you have to hit a key along with it most of the time. Most of all, what I did not like about the Mighty Mouse was the battery life. The Bluetooth just ate my batteries alive and I was having to change my batteries just about every week. Although I do spend a lot of time on the computer, I feel the battery life is very impractical just for about anyone and especially for the price tag being a whopping $70 USD. The activities I did with the mouse were not strenuous, such as gaming, but browsing, working in applications such as Excel and Word and instant messaging. One thing I did notice about the Mighty Mouse was that it kept going out of “range” every so often. The Bluetooth Apple keyboard did it as well but there's nothing like being in the middle of something and your mouse going out on you… Anyhow, I used it for 6 months before I decided it was time for a change.

Rundown: Bluetooth enabled wireless, smooth look and feel, different but appealing clicking mechanism, impractical battery life, fairly inflated price tag, and a bit heavy, no clickwheel.

As a replacement for the Mighty Mouse I purchased the Logitech V200. At about $30 USD less than the Mighty Mouse, I felt a little better about the price tag especially if I had to buy so many batteries as I was buying before. This mouse is categorized as a notebook mouse but I see no difference in the traditional mouse. I was a bit hesitant with this mouse at first as the default settings were a bit buggy so be sure and correct those if you purchase this mouse. The battery issue with the Mighty Mouse was solved obviously as I have performed the exact same action as before and have yet to change my battery and it's been three months. Although the Mighty Mouse may have a nifty clicking mechanism the Logitech had an efficient two button clicker with the clickwheel. (You use it more than you think) Another aspect that edged out the Mighty Mouse was the fact that the Logitech is more portable. With small USB “stick” you can plug and play your mouse on any computer. With the Mighty Mouse, your portability and capabilities are limited as you need software and/or Bluetooth.

Rundown: Light, less attractive physically, better battery life tenfold, traditional, portable.

Conclusion:
Overall, I feel the Logitech is the more affordable, more efficient, and traditional mouse out of the two. If you are a Mac user then you might feel like you have to have the Mighty Mouse so everything matches. I did have that initial mindset until the battery life gobbled up my money quicker than my college loan payments.

Many people wonder if it is worth their time to purchase a HP Pavilion laptop. Many people know that this is the most famous name for HP laptops. According to Wikipedia, HP has at least 8 different series of laptops under the HP Pavilion laptop name. Most of them seem are pretty much in the same class. They are built to get work done, although some of the HP Pavilion laptop models also play the latest games flawlessly. Although the performance of the HP Pavilion laptop can vary greatly, most of the HP Pavilion laptops seem to have similar problems in most cases.

One of the biggest problems that people have is actually the price of the HP Pavilion laptop. The prices of the HP Pavilion laptops are high for no reason at all. You could easily get another laptop with similar or better specification than some of the HP Pavilion laptops at a cheaper price. For example, you can easily get a dual core Toshiba laptop with DDR2 memory for under $389 if you visit the http://www.toshibadirect.com site. A laptop of the same value in the HP Pavilion laptop series would cost nearly $600.

Most people do not realize that specifications of a laptop are really all that matters when you are comparing laptops. Some people like to by HP Pavilion laptops because of the fancy designed that you may receive, but that is always worth the extra $200 that you will end up paying at the end of the day.

The HP Pavilion laptop series use to be on top when it came to performance, but other laptop manufacturers quickly rose up as competition. They also were able to offer lower prices because of the newer technologies that were implanted into laptop components.

According the user comments on the Wikipedia site, another disadvantage that you can run into with a HP – Pavilion laptop is the fact that a large number of people report that their laptop's motherboard fails after 1 or 2 years. That means you really should depend on your HP – Pavilion laptop to last you like some of the other laptop can. The only real good thing about getting a HP- Pavilion laptop is the fact that you will be getting features that you may not receive at that price with other laptops such as the touch-screen features. Then again even those HP – Pavilion laptops will break the bank.

Me and my husband bought the Sony VAIO VGN-FE41Z series laptop three months ago by calling at call centre. We by experience came to conclusion that using call centre for the order is better because you can ask them for any offer or even free delivery. My husband is a GP so he needed a laptop for only work. So we both selected this laptop with mobile technology. I found this laptop best as it has some special features like built in camera, microphone and blue tooth. This Sony laptop has Intel Centrino, Duo with windows vista . Sky Pe is also installed. I selected screen size 15.4″. Memory is 2 GB.

Adobe Photoshop premiere Element already installed in the laptop.

When I first opened the laptop ,the touch just said its quality. The X-black LCD with double lamp widescreen was stunning and impressive. The graphics can never be found in any other computer . Every part itself saying that it belongs to the Sony and Sony are the best.

I chat with my sis' in US using built in camera . I used yahoo chat instead of Skype because yahoo is free and Skype has charges and Skype can be use with broadband and also when some one on the other side also use broadband. Other wise its function is disturbing.

Disadvantages are when comparing with Dell, no disc is supplied for already installed software like Windows vista is installed and no disc is provided in case any damage is done to laptop . So we can not reinstall the windows or adobe photo shop .

I paid for Microsoft word. Dell provide Disc for windows and word and also for each and every software installed.

We incur with the problem within two weeks but we dealt with that I want to share that too in case it might help some body

One day (it was not even two weeks) when I tried to log on my laptop its windows start up and then suddenly screen went black and it seemed like dead .I did try to start again but it just produce clicking sound and no more move. I was shocked and got worried .It is such an expensive, brand new and latest model .what should I do now. But I was not very worried as It was covered by business warranty ,so I thought to contact to Sony and get my laptop repaired but before that I wanted to do what ever I could do my self and so contact my friend who set up my laptop and also my Dell computer. He is an expert in the computer and it is his profession too. I followed his advice. The solution was so simple that no body will believe .Any body can do this. So I thought if any body come across with the same problem should not end up paying or be fooled by anybody.

Laptops are actually are more delicate and sensitive than desktop computers. The laptops has more powerful defensive system than desktop computers against invaders.

When any problem accord like windows went switch off automatically, screen turns blank, laptop did not turn on or suddenly turn of automatically while running. The reason could be any one and might possibly be cured by:-
(First check that it is not due to need of charging)

Take out all the other connections from the laptop
Then slowly take out those batteries which are inserted in the laptop all the time.
Then leave the laptop this way about at least an hour.

After an hour insert back the batteries in the place . And slowly turn on the power button and amazingly this simple trick helped and reset the laptop .

What my friend told me and also I concluded that there might be a virus invaded through Internet and tried to infect the hard drive. The self defence system of laptop automatically went to “sleep” to save it self from damage.

Then when we take out the battery from the laptop ,the internal power set to zero as there were no supply of current by any mean for some time and when reinsert the battery in the laptop like the first day, it is back to normal and get out of “sleep” mode. There might be other technical clarification but as I am no expert I just guessed it my self.

I have done this twice as this happened to my laptop twice and both the time it did work.
And I am sure it will work for every one the same as it did to me. And I am really happy to get my Sony VAIO laptop back and working and also because Bond also use the same one and I am sure he does know the same solution if problem occur !

I know the problem occur due to my fault it had nothing to do with the Sony and the problem was resolve. I was not worried because the laptop I bought was quite expensive so I get 4 years cover. Now even after 3 to 4 months it is working nicely and smoothly . I am happy with our choice

Windows Vista is the new feature but it is very much similar to Windows XP . All of the software are compatible l(I am talking about only which I use )like, Adobe Photoshop ,yahoo,MS Word, MSN and all the other common features we use in every day life. I only use basic as I am not very expert in Computers.

Like most people, a lot of the work I do is done on a laptop. Whether it's show research, prep, blog writing, video editing, Skyping with my team or messing on Facebook…99 percent of the time I am doing it from my laptop. And a good percentage of that time, I have my computer directly on my lap. And as I sit there for hours and that sucker heats up, I can't help but think, “Am I frying my ovaries?”

What about cell phones, Wi-Fi, power lines, radio alarm clocks, heating pads, x-rays, microwaves and every other electronic device that has become part of doing life in 2010? Does having this kind of constant contact with electromagnetic fields (EMF) put us at higher risk for things like cancer? What does this exposure mean for kids and their growing brains and rapidly dividing cells?

Flashback to 1991

I was fresh out of college and landed my first real job at a cellular phone company. That was back in the day when hand-held cell phones were huge. We're talking five inches deep with a giant stiff antenna coming out the end. It was like holding a phone book with the spine against your ear. Smug brat that I was, I thought I was all-that-and-then-some because I was the only person I knew who had one. But that also means that every day since 1991, my brain has been exposed to a cell phone smashed against my head. I'm not thinking I was so cool anymore…

Frightening research

I decided to talk to Dr. Martin Blank, a professor of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics at Columbia University–one of the few scientists sounding the alarm. It turns out when you look at the data that is not industry funded, we get a much more uncomfortable picture of the health risks of EMF. Thank you, thank you Dr. Blank for having the guts to speak up:

Hear Dr. Blank's warning in this 2-minute snippet from my radio show:

Listen to the whole interview:

Thanks to the popularity of notebooks and laptops, a huge percentage of the worldwide market are always in search for the best accessories for their devices. The accessories seem as important as the gadgets themselves. Although there are currently numerous designs available for your laptop accessory, it is still difficult to find the right one to purchase. The variety of designs for computer backpacks can be astonishing for a first time shopper. You might be surprised as to how confusing shopping for one can be. Firstly, check on the size of your laptop and use it as a basis to know what protection gear it requires. Although you may have a big bag for your laptop, this does not necessarily assure your gadget's protection from possible damages.Protection is always a prime requirement when picking computer backpacks. There are specific designs that go as far as containing padded compartments to assure you of your gadget's protection. You can also look for bags with added Velcro straps to prevent your laptop from colliding with other parts of the bag.For people who take security as a premium requirement for getting good computer backpacks, you can also look for ones that have hard shell material to be fully guaranteed of your bag's safekeeping. This design, however, can seem uncomfortable while carrying. The moment you have determined the criteria of protection for your bag, you can now start specifying the style that you want. Of course, each person has their own style preferences so you can be as specific as you want.As much as possible, you must look for unique designs to avoid comparisons with normal-looking bags. With a lot of people using plain colored laptop bags, these easily get mixed up with other people's stuff. For added comfort, you can also choose a convertible backpack that can be made into a sling bag. This is especially convenient for women who want to have a little versatility in their gadget accessories. For specific designs, you may also check brands that offer customization of prints.By: Pam Matias About the Author:

What are your computer woes? Is it so ancient that you can only run Windows 3.1? What about the age old excuse of, “Its just acting slow.”? How about failing hardware? Do you need to upgrade because your computer can not run the latest software? Or is it that your cup-holder is broken again? Any way it goes, you want a new computer, and you want to go mobile like everyone else. This strange world of mobile computers may intimidate you at first but you will soon find that there are few differences in buying a laptop or a desktop. The following are the top 10 question you should ask yourself before researching and buying your new laptop:

10. Your budget is probably the biggest consideration, and can be the deciding factor on what extra options, if any, you will get. After you decide on a budget then look at what laptops can fit your needs and price around. A little phrase to consider is that spending a little extra now will save you a LOT of headaches later. With today’s technology prices putting down a $2000 budget will make you extremely happy and you will probably have money left over. You will also find that the price of a laptop is very close to being the same as a desktop with the same specs when you include an lcd monitor.

9. What are your needs out of a laptop computer? Everybody likes to surf the net, check e-mail, do word processing, and at least the occasional song and picture, and pretty much all new computers can do all that. Some just do it faster than others.

One extra thing you will want to consider is video games. Today’s games can take a serious toll on computers resources in order to perform well. You will need a little extra depending on the game you want. The easiest thing to do is look at the box the game came in, and read the “recommended” requirements. Then base your computer from that. A little faster wouldn’t hurt either.

Video is another heavy option. If you like to store a lot of movies and TV shows you downloaded then you will need a bigger hard drive and a better video card. Everybody has said that they will just put it on disk after they watch it or download it to save space, but you know as well as I do that you don’t want a billion disks to sift through and don’t want to wait on load times. I’ll explore more on storage later.

Do you travel a lot, or in school? This will affect many choices in options with the laptop. In other words: How mobile do you want to be? That brings me to number eight:

8. Size. Wow, there are a lot of different sizes out there! How do you choose? First, if you want to be really mobile then you would probably prefer a smaller screen. This will affect the overall size and weight of the laptop. The screen size will also affect the battery life you will get out of one charge. Usually a 14.1” screen or smaller is consider small. Or, if you are looking for a desktop replacement that you can occasionally take around the house or even less out of the house, then you might consider a bigger screen. These screens put out 17” of video love and most come with those lovely number-pads to the right of the keyboard. A 17” screen compared to a 14.1” screen is obviously heavier and use up more battery life, but you will be plugged in to an outlet almost all the time and what is a pound or two extra. A happy medium is a 15” or a 15.4” if you want a widescreen.

Thickness will also affect the weight of your laptop. Getting an ultra thin laptop is cool. Just remember that with all that breathing room gone your cool laptop can get hot fast.

7. Some people don’t care about what brand they get, and consider that a computer is a computer. While that may be truer with desktops, laptops are a little more crucial about what brand you get. If your happy and satisfied with computer by a certain company, by all means stay with that company, and remove all doubt in your mind that if your computer messes up it wasn’t because you got a different brand. FYI: all brands of all computers have problems, some brands just have more.

This part is a little more difficult to write without being biased, but I will attempt. Take my opinion for what you will, but I have worked with computers for many years and even sold computers at a certain technology store.

That being said, picking a brand of laptop is like picking a brand of automobile. No matter what brand of car you get, you can always get a fast engine under the hood. Some brands of cars are just better built and perform longer because of the quality. Most people would consider an average quality brand of car as being Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Toyota, etc… A better quality car you would probably be Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, etc…Comparatively, average brand of laptop would be Gateway, Dell, HP, Compaq, Acer, e-Machines, and the better side of laptops is Toshiba, Sony, IBM-Lenovo, and Alienware. But remember the better quality comes at a price.

6. The first step in choosing speed is the processor. There are a few factors to consider in a processor. First is, do I want Intel or AMD? At this point in technology Intel has the best processor for a laptop called the Core 2 Duo. It is a little more pricy but from what rumor mills say, I expect it to go down by the end of the year. There is absolutely nothing wrong with an AMD processor, they will soon come out with a competing processor.

Next you will want to consider raw speed. This is usually measured in Gigahertz. (abbreviated GHz) The bigger the number, the faster the processor is. Also, bus speed is very important in speed of a computer. This is probably one of the biggest factors and the most overlooked. Bus speed is how fast the computer’s components can communicate with each other. A lower bus speed will cause a bottleneck in the flow of information and will cause your computer slow down. A low bus speed is the leading cause of slow computers. The easiest way to not get a slow bus speed is choosing the correct model of processor. In the Intel brand a Celeron processor has the lower bus speed and respectively for AMD the Sempron is slower. If you are on a strict budget, you will probably consider going to one of those slower processor models. But, if you must get anything extra, bus speed is the first to consider.

Recently another factor has appeared, Dual-Core. Dual-Core means that the processor has two processing lines, and that means it can now process two things simultaneously, and double the power of the processor without taking up extra power from the battery. Single core processors are being phased out so they are a bit cheaper.

5. The second factor in speed is memory. Memory is a temporary place for your computer to store commonly used data from the hard drive. A lack in memory can severely affect the computer’s speed. Memory is measured in Megabytes (MB) and Gigabytes (GB). As a unit of measure I will inform you that 1 GB = 1000 MB. Today’s recommended amount of memory is at least 1 GB. This is especially recommended if you want to upgrade your Windows from XP to Vista when it comes out. You can get 512 MB and work with Windows XP easily, but never get a computer with only 256 MB unless you plan on upgrading the memory.

4. The hard drive is another speed factor of your computer. How does the storage device affect the speed of the computer? The hard drive is essentially the slowest component in your computer. This is especially apparent in laptops. The hard drive being slow is the whole reason for memory in the first place.

Each hard drive has disks inside that spin at a certain speed. And how fast they spin determines how fast they can access information. Essentially, if you speed up the hard drive, you have sped up the whole computer. There are only a few speeds of hard drives to remember, and hard drive speed is measured in Rotations per Minute (rpm). The speeds are 4200rpm, 5400rpm, 7200rpm, and 10,000rpm. I am not aware of a laptop that has the 10,000rpm hard drive, and the 7200rpm is rare and expensive in laptops. The rpm of the drive is the second thing to consider in speed if your budget allows.

Size of the hard drive does not affect speed much but does play an important part in how many programs, songs, videos, etc you can store on the computer. Like memory the hard drive size is measured in Gigabytes (GB). You may ask, “How do I determine how much space I need?” There is no formula to determine an exact number. You will just have to do a little predicting. Keep in mind that the average song is 4MB, the average picture on a 6 mega pixel camera takes up 4MB, and the average movie is 3 to 4 GB. That is about 250 songs or pictures per GB. If you plan on storing either of these on your computer you will have to allocate that much space on the hard drive, and when your drive is full you will have to delete something to put something else on. You can always burn your media to a CD or DVD to free up space. But, as I said earlier, “Do you really want to go through that?” The average person will not fill up 80GB. Also, if you need extra space you could buy an external hard drive.

3. Do you want to be able to watch a DVD on your laptop, or do you want to go as far as to be able to backup your DVDs to another disk in case they scratched? Most all laptops come with at least a CD writer\DVD reader drive standard. If you want to be able to copy DVDs or make your own, you will have to opt for DVD writer drive.

The drives speeds are measured in “X” otherwise known as times. In other words 1X is real time, (the speed as if you were watching the DVD or listening to the CD.) and 2X is twice as fast as real time. Currently the maximum speed for burning a DVD is 16X and a CD is 52X.

2. The warranty is a very important feature and can be the most expensive option to get. Every laptop should come with 1 year warranty from the manufacturer covering only defective equipment. Every major manufacturer and even the retail stores offer extra protection ranging from extending the manufacturer’s warranty to covering any accidents you may have. Since most defective equipment shows itself after the first year, extending the basic warranty is highly recommended. If you want to cover wear and tear or are clumsy you might want to consider getting the complete coverage warranty, so in case you drop the laptop and the screen cracks it will be fixed free of charge. These repairs can cost more than the laptop. If that is the case, most warranties will just give you a brand new laptop. (Free upgrade!) Before getting any extended warranty review the terms and conditions so you know what they cover and what you will be paying for that coverage. Remember, Insurance is us;ess until you need it. Then it is priceless!

1. Connections can be time and money saver if you have the right ports. USB devices are multiplying rapidly. Printers, mice, flash drives, hard drives, digital cameras, and many other things come with the USB interface. So, make sure you have plenty of USB ports so you don’t have to buy an USB hub.

If you want to hook your laptop to a TV so you can watch a movie or slide show contained on your hard drive you will want an s-video port. If you have a digital camcorder, look to see if it uses USB or Firewire as the computer interface.

For your internet purposes look at the network and modem ports. The modem is a normal looking phone jack. The modem will allow you to use dial-up service. If you have high speed internet you will need a network port. It looks like a wide phone jack. Also becoming standard built in is a wireless network card. This will allow you to log on to a wireless network (when you are in range and if you have one). Home, work, coffee shops, college campuses, and hotels are the most common places to find a wireless network.

Dear Mr. Swed:
I read today's article about Jorge Mester with great sadness and yesterday's article by David Ng with dismay. I question the accuracy of the article in regard to Mr. Mester and unsuccessful negotiations with an implied message that the failed negotiations and potential financial failure of the orchestra was on his shoulders.
This is a conductor and orchestra who donated 100% of their time and services to the first concert performed after the announcement that the orchestra(s) were in financial trouble. That concert did not cost the association any money for Mr. Mester or the orchestra. There were rumors that the musicians who were unable to perform at that concert paid their substitutes out of their own pockets rather than burden the association. Mr. Mester also secured the services of the pianist that night to also perform for free. These are not the actions of a man too greedy to bend to negotiations. On the contrary, couldn’t one speculate that the problems with the negotiations are with the association management and a non-performing board? My understanding of a strong board for any organization is to be able to both personally provide funds and to have a rolodex of contacts also capable of making large contributions. Where have the board members been throughout this ordeal?
The orchestra was devastated to learn that Mr. Mester was terminated. They loved playing for him and respected his musicianship and ability to conduct them to performing beautiful music. Let’s also not forget that the musicians in the orchestra among he best performing and studio musicians in southern California. To find a conductor of Mr. Mester’s caliber and capability to make music with these musicians who are accustomed to working with the best composers and conductors in the professional music world, will be a long search. You get what you pay for. I suspect Mr. Zdunek doesn’t know the difference a conductor can make, he only knows the difference between what they are paid.
Pasadena audiences are knowledgeable. Concert quality has declined. The solo artist at the April concert was embarrassing at best. This was a third string musician with a first string orchestra. If this is the quality of performance that Mr. Zdunek desires, then he might as well fold the tent now. Concerts such as the April one aren’t worth the price of admission or even the effort to get to the auditorium with a free ticket in hand. It was the quality of the remainder of the program that enabled me to stay. Are we to believe that Mester was responsible for choosing that artist, or was the artist’s fee the determining factor of who was to perform? Of all the years I’ve attended Pasadena Symphony concerts, this is the first concert where the artist was not up to the task. Mr. Mester has always had excellent artists, many of whom were at the beginning of careers that have brought them world recognition. If the choice is between a concert consisting only of orchestral pieces, or a mediocre concert featuring an amateur soloist, give me the orchestra alone – if they want to perform for a get-what-you-pay-for conductor.
Perhaps one should look into the financial health of the orchestra that, to a reader and follower of the music world of L.A., seemed to take a deep dive after the Pops Orchestra with conductor Rachel Worby and the Pasadena Symphony were combined under the same management. What is the real story behind that union? If they are broke, how did they afford the new shell? The symphony seemed to be managing and suddenly stories of impending bankruptcy were rampant after the orchestras were combined. I wonder why that story has been such a well kept secret?

I had just received my Acer Mini Laptop a few days ago when I ordered it from “Ecom Electronics”. Being 8.9 inches across and holding endless possibilities, this computer is perfect for someone who likes to travel but doesn't want to carry around all that weight. It met my expectations very well because I imagined it to run slower than a normal computer – but it's about the same! The speed of this computer runs very quickly with 512 MB RAM and a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor. This advanced yet small laptop can do just about everything.

This little laptop has Windows XP plus a quick set up wizard to help you get started. There are no confusing manuals to read or disks to put in the PC. All you have to do is turn it on, while following the easy Wizard prompts. Once you get everything set up, you'll notice one of their best features comes with virus protection. With McAFee Security Center, it's simple to protect your laptop from malicious websites or files. It also has up to date scanning so you don't have to do everything manually. Another handy tool I like about the program is the Parental Controls
are adjustable.

I am not just writing an Acer Mini Laptop review to give the good news, but also some cons. I'm always writing articles, so I was a bit weary to see they did not include the full version of Microsoft Office. Yes, the Acer laptop does come with this software but you can only have the trial version for 25 days. However, there are still writing tools available like Wordpad, Notepad, and Microsoft Word Processor.

One other thing that I havn't mentioned is their games. They have about two different game sets rather than one. For example, in the Acer Game Zone are a few games like Cake Mania, Chicken Invaders, Fizzball and more. Located in the regular Games menu is Pin Ball, Hearts, Internet Spades and Solitaire.

The only problem I have encountered with the Acer Laptop is that the screen resolution is too small and there are only two settings for it. Whenever I go to Internet Explorer, all the font is tiny. It would be nice if they could fix that in the future because sometimes I find myself squinting. Also, if you are looking to save your files one day you will discovery that this laptop does not accept discs of any kind. You can use a flash drive for the Acer Mini laptop just fine. I hope this little Acer Mini Laptop Review contributed to you.

The first mini Toshiba is pretty predictable throughout. The NB100, Toshiba has a bright 8.9-inch with 1024×600 resolution and comes with a choice of XP or Ubuntu Linux, a webcam, microphone, WiFi, Bluetooth (no 3G yet), up to 120 GB hard drive, and, of course, an Intel Atom.

So maybe Toshiba have identified what is a netbook, but what's the difference? Toshiba already has an impressive range of notebooks, including ToshibaPortégé R500-10U and are eager to maintain its brand and quality construction, hand in hand. The request by Toshiba, the NB100 people buy – because it is a mini-laptop Toshiba.

The NB100 starts at about 259 pounds, except for the base model and evaluation of Linux that has only a 80GB hard drive and 512 MB of memory. The Windows XP model will cost about 299 pounds, but has a 120GB hard drive and a series of 1 GB of RAM. Style XP, it seems better valuemoney.

Aesthetically, it's a bit 'of confusion. The cover seems to have been pasted on another laptop, if the lines do not match. There are no soft edges, if it looks like a box, does not cover the dilemma. And with these banks "gross", seems to be more susceptible to damage. Regarding the battery from the back horrible – Toshiba says that makes the handle appears to be a liability. The saving grace might be the choice of threecolors.

The same battery, a 4 cell 5200mAh Toshiba says tap 3:30 of battery life. It 'pretty low compared to recent offerings from Asus, but overall a nice average of mini laptops. The decision to go for a 9-inch netbook fruit crops in the process of weight – it is a mere 0.99 kg fantastic – Toshiba has developed a lot anyway.

The keyboard is surprisingly large, perhaps helped to extend the batterythe rear, so as not to compromise the size of the keyboard, as on the Dell Inspiron Mini 9. The keyboard will extend all the way to the edges as Dell and has no buttons missing as Dell. Elsewhere the interface, the touchpad is again a reasonable size – remember that is only about the size of a hardcover book. The left mouse button is slightly longer than the right, presumably to reflect the amount that will be used more than others. Below the touchpad are the indicator lights, verypractices.

Overall, the Toshiba NB100 is not too dissimilar from any other 9-inch mini-laptops are already available. Perhaps this is a point in its favor, as you are comfortable buying unheard SFO or a great brand like Toshiba? However, it is ugly and a bit 'low power compared to industry leaders. Thus, while Toshiba is a laptop configured to only the top positions with netbooks – which are handed down from Asus. Toshibaslogan, "Innovation that" could not be more appropriate …

Then, you could do better? Yes, the Eee PC 901 – No. 1 of our mini-laptop, we still recommend Toshiba, and perhaps the Acer Aspire One. but if you want a brand name known simple, ideally with XP and the Toshiba NB100 is for you.

• After a game in which Matt Barnes clearly struggled and played just about a dozen minutes, readers of Orlando Pinstriped Post are voting overwhelmingly in support of a plan to replace Barnes in the starting line-up with J.J. Redick.

The Magic used the trio of Jameer Nelson-Redick-Vince Carter for the last few minutes of Sunday’s game, and the Celtics failed to hit a field-goal in that span. It’s a slightly smaller and less physical line-up than one that includes Barnes or Mickael Pietrus at the small forward, but we saw last season that Redick is a very, very capable defender against Ray Allen.

• Dwight Howard took the blame at Orlando’s practice today for getting a bit carried away in trying to prove he can score against Perk, according to the Orlando Sentinel’s Tania Ganguli (via OPP). He apparently told the media that they (the media) “always talk about good Perkins is” against Howard, according to Ganguli’s tweet linked above.

Meanwhile, Barnes admitted Orlando “may have been feeling ourselves too much.”

Come on, guys.

It’s the Eastern Conference Finals. If you’re “feeling yourselves too much” and stubbornly attacking a one-on-one match-up to feed your ego, you really need to remind yourselves that it’s mid-May and not January.

• Over at The Wages of Wins, a new author shows the Cavs and the Celtics had very even statistical profiles using a version of the site’s Wins Produced stat—provided you used only numbers from the first half the season and extrapolated from there.

The conclusion: If you had assumed the second half of the C’s season was an inaccurate representation of the team’s ability, you would not have been surprised by the outcome of the series. Another conclusion: Mike Brown did a horrible job dividing up the minutes for Cleveland.

• Over at NBA Playbook, Sebastian Pruiti argues that the Magic’s nine threes in the first half were “all pretty good looks that you can expect the Magic to make.” Go check out the video and judge for yourselves.

I will say this, though: It’s so easy to forget how slim the margin of victory is in a Game like Sunday’s. Remember Rasheed Wallace’s corner three—the one he made with the shot clock expiring and his momentum leaning out of bounds? How many times is Sheed going to make that shot out of 100 tries? Five? Two?

He made 10 corner threes in 38 attempts all season, according to NBA.com’s hot spots data.

Another sequence that stuck out to me as a pivotal moment: With the C’s up 52-44, Dwight Howard missed two straight free throws. You’d figure that with Orlando’s best rebounder shooting the foul shots, Boston would be a cinch to secure the rebound. But no. Matt Barnes darted around Perk and got a piece of the ball, which eventually went out of bounds off the Celtics.

On the extra possession, Jameer Nelson missed a three-pointer. The rebound came out to the foul line, and Barnes sprinted across the court to grab it in mid-air. Another extra possession for Orlando, and you could feel a big three coming. Nope. Rashard Lewis threw the ball away, and Paul Pierce picked it up in transition. He felt Jameer Nelson make contact with him from behind and launched the ball in the direction of the basket.

And guess what? The refs gave Pierce the charity shooting foul call, a call Rajon Rondo can’t get no matter how hard he tries (or how well he acts) in the same situation. And Pierce knocked down all three foul shots.

What a huge swing, right? And the sort of swing you forget about when all sorts of crazy stuff happens at the end of a game.

The lesson: The margin between these two teams is so, so slim. And also: The referees have no clue what to do when players chuck the ball toward the rim after feeling contact. To me, Pierce doesn’t deserve the shooting foul call there. He was not planning on shooting the ball, and he didn’t start his shooting motion until after Nelson made contact with him.

But I’ll take it. You better believe I’ll take it.

• Paul Flannery’s off-day report on WEEI’s Green Street blog contains several goodies about what to look for in Game 2.

Here’s Doc on double-teaming Howard:

By Rivers count the Celtics double-teamed on three occasions, and they got burned each time.

“It’s instinct,” Rivers said. “We had a horrible one, where we doubled Dwight . Dwight was five feet off the block and we went and doubled him and Jason Williams was standing by himself behind the 3. That’s just an instinct and we do allow that, but we have to be smarter against this team. They kill you when you double them. If you double team this team they’ll hurt you.”

That was Rondo’s mistake, and it was a glaring one even as it happened in real time. Rajon had a lot of ground to cover, his momentum wasn’t going the right way when he started his cut, and Howard was on the right edge of the paint (the side he least prefers).

• The C’s are also concerned about Jameer Nelson’s effectiveness on the screen/roll, and Flannery wonders whether Boston should stop going under screens for Nelson:

The Celtics also want to figure out their pick and roll coverage. Jameer Nelson burned them in the second half when they went under the screen. He’s too good a shooter to allow him open looks.

“We’ve got to figure out a way to stop Jameer Nelson in the pick and roll,” Pierce said. “He really got hot in the second half. We’re far from being where we want to be.”

But you are up 1-0, Paul. You know what would be something? Going up 2-0.

Game 2 begins in about 24 hours.

Dear Mr.

Swamp Soccer World Championships 2008 by Aland Rob

Holländische Nationalmannschaft Trikots

There is a formation in soccer that is not very common. This formation is the 5-3-2. This unique formation is especially popular in Mexico. Ricardo Lavolpe, ex- Mexican National team coach, implemented this formation during the 2006 World Cup. Other current coaches who have implemented this system are Miguel Herrera, Alberto de la Torre, and Ruben Omar Romano. Jesus Ramirez won the 2005 Under-17 World Cup with Mexico using this system.

The main component of this system are the five defenders. Three central defenders are situated in the back. Two wing defenders run up and down the whole width of the field on their respective sides. Critics of this system have argued that this formation takes away from the wing defenders and their ability to defend. They say that they will easily tire from their commitment to attack. Others say that this opens up the width of the field with their speed.

The midfield is formed with three players. There are two attacking midfielders with a holding mid. right behind them. Mexican playmaker Sinha is a great example of how to play in this midfield. He never strays to far from the inside and his laser point vision creates opportunities with the forwards.

The two forwards are essential combined with a quicker, creative player alongside a tall, strong goal scoring strike partner.

This formation for soccer is better suited for higher levels of play. The nuances that go with this system are sometimes hard to understand. Lavolpe, after the 2006 World Cup, went to coach Argentinean powerhouse Boca Juniors. At the time of his signing they were only a few points from obtaining the championship. They went on to lose that championship because the players protested this change in system. He came and change them from their usual positions. Even at a high level this system is complicated but can be fruitful given an adaptation period.

The champagne is still wet on the grass at Camp Nou and La Rosaleda – and is still bottled up somewhere in the lower reaches of San Moix – but questions already abound for next season in La Liga.

Barcelona won the 20th league title in its history with a record 99 points, the last three coming in Sunday’s 4-0 home win over Valladolid. Lionel Messi scored his 33rd and 34th league goals, and 46th and 47th overall – both tying club records set by Ronaldo in 1996-97.

The result sent Valladolid back to the Segunda, where it will be joined on its way down by Tenerife and Xerez. The boys from Castile and Leon would still be up had it not been for an unforeseen draw in Malaga, where an early goal from Duda was enough for the locals to get a 1-1 result against a Real Madrid side that needed a win (and a result from Valladolid) to win the title.

Instead, it was the Andalucians celebrating on their pitch, while Real sauntered off with the greatest second-place finish (96 points, 102 goals scored) in European football history.

The weekend’s biggest drama came Saturday, as Mallorca topped Espanyol 2-0 and stayed on the field to watch the conclusion of Almeria-Sevilla on the big screen. With the scored tied 2-2 deep in injury time, the Mallorca players stood on the pitch poised to celebrate a miraculous qualification for the Champions League… only for 19-year old cantera product Rodri, making his second appearance of the year, to score on an overhead kick to send Sevilla to fourth place and tears to the pitch from Mallorca players.

So, to recap the important stuff:

Champion: Barcelona
Champions League (automatic): Real Madrid, Valencia
Champions League (qualifying): Sevilla
Europa League: Mallorca, Getafe, Atletico de Madrid (as holders)
Relegated: Valladolid, Tenerife, Xerez

So, where do we go from here? Let’s start with the biggest questions:

What do Barcelona and Real Madrid do now?
As always, plenty of transfer rumors surround the big two.

David Villa is a lock to join Barcelona. Well, he was a lock to join Madrid last summer. Cesc Fabregas will finally head back to Catalunya. Well, he was supposed to do that two years ago, and last summer, and… Real want him, too. Madrid president Florentino Perez, meanwhile, will also go after David Silva… and Fernando Torres, and Wayne Rooney, and Jesus Navas, and Pele, and LeBron James, and…

And what will happen on the sidelines? One has to figure that if Jose Mourinho wants the job at the Bernabeu, he will get it. It would be unfair to Manuel Pellegrini, who took an essentially brand new team and got it to play some devastating football. But he will be judged on four games: the two against Barcelona, the return leg against Lyon in the Champions League round of 16, and the 4-0 loss to Alcorcon in the Copa del Rey.

While he’s signed for next year, Pep Guardiola is no lock to return to the Barcelona bench, depending on what happens with the June 13 presidential election. Although, the election may be rendered moot if Barcelona does in fact get Villa and/or Fabregas.

What does everyone else do now?
For the purpose of brevity, we’ll limit “everyone else” to teams that could, in theory, challenge the duopoly: Valencia, Sevilla, Villarreal, Atletico (OK, that’s stretching it).

Unai Emery did one of the better managing jobs in Spain this year, turning around the negative culture that had been surrounding Valencia the last few years and getting them into third place (not to mention the quarterfinals of the Europa League, from which it should have advanced had it not been for a woeful no-penalty decision in the closing minutes of the second leg at Atletico). He’ll have to do even better next year, with Villa, Silva and perhaps even Juan Mata almost certain to be sold.

Sevilla will be hoping Luis Fabiano shakes off his “injuries” to have a big World Cup for Brazil and drive up the asking price for his transfer. This may also be the time to sell high on winger Jesus Navas, given that Diego Capel and Diego Perotti are still on the books. If those funds can be allocated toward the team’s biggest needs – another forward, a playmaking central midfielder and another defender or two to alleviate the pressure off keeper Andres Palop – Sevilla may be able to make the noise it was expected to this season after a tremendous start.

Villarreal rebounded from an awful beginning to challenge for the European places, but look likely to be waving goodbye this summer to striker Giuseppe Rossi, who is said to desire a move to Italy. The Yellow Submarine has spent uncharacteristically big (by its standards, anyway) on Jozy Altidore and Nilmar the last two summers, and there are questions as to whether it can make that kind of splash again. Some midfield help to support the likes of aging Marcos Senna and injury-prone Santi Cazorla is needed.

Atletico will likely sell Sergio Aguero this summer (see the trend here?) and, with millions upon millions in debt still to be paid off, doesn’t figure to have the ability to plug the holes. A new back four would be a good place to start.

In short, expect to see another “two-league” Liga next year: the one for Barcelona and Madrid, and the one for everybody else.

Who could be in trouble for the drop next season?
There’s the obvious candidates: the three promoted teams (none of whom have been determined, as of yet), Malaga and Racing Santander. It’s also hard to see the likes of Almeria, Sporting Gijon and Osasuna getting much better.

If someone from this year’s top half is going to join them, it would probably be Mallorca. The islanders were a great story this year, with Gregorio Manzano taking a team of few recognizable names playing in front of a half-empty stadium to within seconds of a top-four finish. But Manzano is likely to leave (to Sevilla?) and so are at least a few of the club’s top players, defender Nunes (who’s 33), midfielder Gonzalo Castro and midfielder Borja Valero (on loan from West Brom) among them. And even if Mallorca wanted to sell leading scorer Aritz Aduriz (12 goals), could they? They haven’t even paid the full fee it took to get him from Athletic Bilbao two years ago.

Such are the economics of the times in La Liga.

Will the league’s organizers get their act together?
The answer is obviously “no,” but consider:

- The league started on the weekend of August 29 and 30, which was immediately followed by a World Cup qualifier weekend. Couldn’t they have started a little earlier to at least get into the flow of the season before it was disrupted?

- At the other end, there are Segunda matches scheduled for June 20. That’s almost two weeks into the World Cup. Real Betis – a team currently three points out of a promotion spot with five matches to play – will soon be seeing its best player, midfielder Achille Emana, leave for the Cameroon national team camp. It should be noted that teams in England’s Championship – which wraps up with this weekend’s playoff between Cardiff and Blackpool – play 46 games (49 if you’re the teams playing this weekend). In the Segunda, you play 42.

- The day and time for the Copa del Rey final wasn’t set until a month before the actual game, with haggling from both clubs (Sevilla and Atletico) on where it should be played. Spain doesn’t have a Wembley, sure, but how is a cup final not scheduled at least a year in advance?

- Alfonzo Perez Burrull is still employed as a first division referee.

Good or bad, it’s always interested in La Liga. Until next year…

The final table:
Barcelona – 99 points; Real Madrid – 96; Valencia – 71; Sevilla – 63; Mallorca – 62; Getafe – 58; Villarreal – 56; Athletic Bilbao – 54; Atletico de Madrid – 47; Deportivo la Coruna – 47; Espanyol – 44; Osasuna – 43; Almeria – 42; Real Zaragoza – 41; Sporting Gijon – 40; Racing Santander – 39; Malaga – 37; Valladolid – 36; Tenerife – 36; Xerez – 34.

Fresh off her documentary “Sunday at Smith’s: A Soccer Ethnography”, Nisha Logan brings this intimate depiction of the Tanzania women’s national soccer team, also known as the Twiga Stars. The story is sure to touch the lives of many, as you get to see the troubles and pains that 30 women face as they fight to make it onto the team (especially when you see 8 of the players living in a 10×10 shack.) The action itself is exciting, with some great footage and game action.

Assistant coach Dan Blank will join the Georgia soccer staff and assistant Robin Confer will remain will the Bulldogs along with volunteer coach Steve Nugent, head coach Steve Holeman announced Tuesday.

“I truly feel that we have one of the top coaching staffs in the country,” Holeman said. “All three of the assistants are great coaches but more importantly they are great people. There’s no question I can learn a lot from each one of them and I look forward to working with this staff.”

Blank comes to Georgia from Ole Miss, where he spent the previous three years on Holeman’s staff. Prior to Ole Miss, Blank was the head women’s coach at Embry-Riddle University, where he started the program in 1998. He was a three-time Florida Sun Conference Coach of the Year and NAIA Region 14 Coach of the Year and guided the Eagles to three conference titles, three NAIA Region XIV titles and three NAIA national tournament appearances.

Blank was also the head coach at Brewton-Parker, where he amassed a 47-13-3 record in three seasons. He led the Barons to three league titles, two NAIA Tournament berths and was named Georgia Athletic Conference Coach of the Year three times.

“Dan has 13 years of experience as a head coach at the college level and has a proven ability to coach and develop players,” Holeman said. “He is a tireless worker, a great recruiter, and will play a big role in our future success here.”

Confer joined the Georgia staff in 2005 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator under Patrick Baker. Her efforts helped bring in several of the highest-ranked signing classes in UGA history.

As a former forward for the U.S. National Team, Confer has coached Georgia’s attacking players. She helped coach Carrie Patterson to NSCAA Second-Team All-American accolades, as she became just the second Bulldog ever to earn that award. Confer also assisted with the transition of senior Ali Williams from defender to forward in 2005, a move which sent Williams on to earn SEC Offensive Player of the Year recognition.

“I was very fortunate to be able to keep Robin on staff,” Holeman said. “I’ve known her since she was a player at UNC and played with the national team and I have great respect for her. Robin is an excellent coach as well as one of the nation’s top recruiters and we were thrilled to keep her on board.”
Nugent joined the Bulldog staff as an assistant coach in 2008 and has concentrated on training the Bulldog goalkeepers. He has more than 19 years of coaching experience at the college, club, ODP, and high school levels including High School Age Director and recruiting coordinator for Team Boca in Boca Raton, Fla.

Nugent was an assistant coach at Florida State from 2000-01 and helped lead the Seminoles to the Sweet 16 in 2000. He helped guide Georgia to 26 wins and back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament the last two seasons.

“The fact that Steve agreed to stay on as a volunteer says a lot about his character,” Holeman said. “Steve loves the team, loves the game, and I’m excited that he’s going to continue coaching here at Georgia.”

As many of us were going about our daily lives on Tuesday, 12 January 2010, worrying about the most trivial of issues, Haiti was struck by a massive 7.0-magnitude earthquake. Port-au-Prince, the nation's capital, has been left in ruins. It is estimated that all deaths that are accounted for, caused by an earthquake, take place within the first 72 hours of the earthquake.

Hearing about the earthquake took me and my emotions back to December 2004's Tsunami. A feeling of helplessness washes over me every time I turn on the television now. News coverage shows faces of suffering, corpses that lie unclaimed on the streets. As sadness fills my heart, I lose faith, wondering why human beings are subject to such suffering. And almost immediately, I re-gain my faith as I watch thousands of volunteers offering their time and help. I hear of worldwide support pouring in, in various forms. Maybe mankind is not lost after all.

There are many organizations that are raising money to help the victims of this earthquake. Although many of us would like to hop onto the next plane and be of physical help to those who are suffering, this is not possible for all. Help also comes in the form of love, prayers and support, from your heart and from your pockets. If you feel like you can't afford to donate a lot of money, remember that every single cent counts. Although money is the most efficient way of helping since it can be used to purchase required resources, supplies in the form of clothing and building materials can also be donated.

Keep in mind that you should always check the credibility of an organization that is raising money. Unfortunately, there are many scam artists out there who take advantage of unfortunate situations. The following are a list of organizations that are raising money for the victims of the earthquake.

Airlines

In an effort to help the victims in Haiti, some airlines have come up with a program in which you can donate your 'miles' in exchange for a donation. That means for a certain number of miles you donate, the airline will make a contribution.

Delta Airlines is one such airline. To donate, click here.

Other airlines that may be taking part in this program are American Airlines and United Airlines. Check their websites for further information.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)

The Top 7 Father's Day Gift Ideas for the Technophobe Dad!

May 14th, 2010

Fußball kann schön sein by xmyrxn

Schweizer Nationalmannschaft Fussball-Trikot

We all know that Father's Day is a brilliant chance to show your dad how much you love and appreciate him, but it brings a major dilemma with it. Men, and especially fathers, are notoriously difficult to buy for. This especially applies if your father is a technophobe because the majority of Father's Day gift ideas are electronic goods.

Well, if your dad is a technophobe and you are struggling for Father's Day gift ideas, look no further than the top 7 technophobe gifts below!

  1. A Fussball Table – This is the perfect gift for a technophobe dad because there is absolutely no technology involved. The game is fun and can be enjoyed by the whole family, especially if you happen to be competitive. It will also no doubt take him back to his youth! The cheapest ones cost as little as $50 so it is an absolute bargain too!
  2. Tickets To A Soccer/Basketball/Baseball Match – For the sporty dad, tickets to a sports event can provide a memorable experience that he will not forget for years to come. This Father's Day gift idea is difficult to top in future years but need not be expensive. Some tickets are as little as $10 a piece, although you might want to throw in a hotdog as well for good measure!
  3. A Universal Remote – No technophobe dad wants to use one remote for the TV, another for the DVD player and a third for Tivo/Sky so get him a universal remote. At $20 to $25 for a really good one, he can enjoy all of his TV shows with no difficulty at all.
  4. A Sports Car For A Day – You can now rent sports car for a couple of hours or even a whole day for upwards of $200. This is a pricey but fabulous present that could help your technophobe dad to live all of his childhood dreams and pose for a while. It's the stuff dreams are made of!
  5. Prehistoric Man Gifts – You can actually buy these on the Internet at http://www.cartoonstock.com/directory/p/pre-historic_man_gifts.asp. They are hilarious cartoons that feature cavemen making jokes about inventions like the wheel. If you want to have a bit of fun with your technophobe dad and make him laugh then this is a must!
  6. A Personalized Number Plate – These would vary in price but they are very safe as far as Father's Day gift ideas are concerned. What man would not want his very own number plate for his car to show off with?
  7. The Dummies Guide To The Internet – Obvious but necessary! Your father could have hours of fun on the Internet if he knew how to use it so invest $20 and get him the book that will teach him to do just that!

Even if you do not get your father any of the above, your Father's Day gift ideas should be original and relevant if you really want to show you care. One word of advice though – avoid socks at all costs!

The team’s first match was held in Milan on 15 May 1910, Italy defeated France by a score of 6–2. Some turmoil kept the players of Pro Vercelli, the best team of the league, out of the game. At the end of the match, the players received as a prize some cigarette packets thrown by the 4,000 spectators. The Italian team (2-3-5): De Simoni; Varisco, Calì; Trerè, Fossati, Capello; Debernardi, Rizzi, Cevenini I, Lana, Boiocchi. First captain of the team was Francesco Calì The first success in an official tournament came with the bronze medal in 1928 Summer Olympics, held in Amsterdam. After losing the semi-final against Uruguay, a victory for 11-3 against Egypt secured third place in the competition. After declining to participate in the first World Cup (1930, in Uruguay) the Italian national team won two consecutive editions of the tournament in 1934 and 1938, under the lead of coach Vittorio Pozzo and thanks to the genius of Giuseppe Meazza, one of the best Italian players ever. Other stars of that era included Luis Monti, Giovanni Ferrari, Silvio Piola and Virginio Rosetta In the 1934 World Cup, the host Azzurri defeated Czechoslovakia 2–1 in Rome, with goals by Raimundo Orsi and Angelo Schiavio. The Italy national football team represents Italy in international football competition and is controlled by the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio (FIGC). They are the current World Champions, having won the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Italy is among the top teams in international football and the second most successful national team in the history of the World Cup having won four titles (1934, 1938, 1982, 2006), just one fewer than Brazil. To this tally they can add one European championship (1968), one Olympic football tournament (1936) and two (defunct) Central European International Cups. The traditional colour of the national team (as well as all Italian teams and athletes) is azure blue (azzurro, in Italian), due to the “Azzurro Savoia” (Savoy Blue), the colour traditionally linked to the royal dynasty which unified Italy in 1861, and maintained in the official standard of the President of the Italian Republic. In October 2009, Italy qualified for the 2010 World Cup South Africa after drawing with Republic of Ireland 2-2. On 4th December 2009, the draw for the 2010 world cup was made, Italy was in Group F alongside Paraguay, New Zealand and Slovakia. As the winner of the FIFA World Cup 2006 Italy National Football Team is one of the favourite team among the other teams of the World Cup 2010. Ticket4football. com provides the Italy fans to get the Italy World Cup Tickets online without any headache. Now that’s what I call a dream team!

As the Premier League season comes to an end, Manchester United superstar and UNICEF Ambassador Ryan Giggs will be preparing for his next showdown at Old Trafford, as part of the Soccer Aid 2010 Rest of the World team.
Giggs, unveiled as the latest football superstar to sign up for Soccer Aid, will create a moment of footballing history when he pulls on the same Rest of the World jersey as French footballing icon Zinedine Zidane at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’. Both players last met at Old Trafford in a Manchester United verses Real Madrid Champions League tie in 2003.
Forming a legendary midfield, Giggs, the most decorated player in English football history, and Zidane will be attempting to defeat the Soccer Aid England team, whose line up includes UNICEF Ambassador and Soccer Aid founder Robbie Williams.
Ryan Giggs, a UNICEF Ambassador since 2006, has signed up to the game to help raise as much money as possible for the charity, which is the world’s leading children’s organisation.

Commenting on his involvement in Soccer Aid, Giggs said:

“Over the years with UNICEF I’ve seen the huge challenges facing children and young people right across the world. I’ve visited children being affected by HIV and AIDS in Sierra Leone and learnt about the difficulties faced by children in accessing their basic rights, like the right to an education or basic healthcare. But I’ve also seen how, with commitment and support from the public, UNICEF is making a real difference. Soccer Aid might be just a football match, but this 90 minutes has the power to transform the lives of millions of children worldwide, with your help. Schweden Trikots

Ferencváros is the Manchester United, the New York Yankees, the Yorimuri Giants of Hungarian soccer. The green-and-white wearing squad is, of all Hungarian clubs, by far the most celebrated, most dominating, most well-known internationally. In total, Ferencváros has 28 championships, 26 Hungarian Cups, one UEFA cup runner-up standing and one UEFA title. Yet juggernaut Ferencváros has been relegated to the second division for the first time ever in its prestigious history, running afoul of the opponent against which it had no chance: money. And with it, the ultimate scandal for a club that has seen too much scandal.

The final (final final, we're assured) decision regarding the insolvent club came two days before the kickoff of the 2006-07 Hungarian soccer season. In past weeks, a license to operate in the first division was denied, then issued and later withdrawn. In a confusing series of events, the licensing committee approved Ferencváros's century-plus-old re-admission on 17 July, overturning a previous resolution. The Hungarian FA then stepped in to state that this decision was a breach of statutes, and dispersed the committee. The FA never formed substitute committee. Two days before the opening of the championship, the future of Ferencváros was sealed, though truthfully Ferencváros' fate may have been set right around the time the Berlin Wall fell.

Immediately with Hungary's political changes of the late 1980s/early 90s came financial difficulties for Ferencváros. The first attempt to merchandise the name was in 1990, when Jean-Claude Bras created a foundation to run Ferencváros' soccer department, with the ultimate goal of a shopping center behind the club's stadium. Bras and his pipe dreams departed in July 1991.

For wont of funding, the team turned to sponsorships. Concomitantly, success on the pitch should also have boasted things economically. Ferencváros turned in the top performance by a Hungarian club ever in the 1995 Champions League. Approximately US $2.44 million came to Ferencváros.

Scandal, naturally, followed. Approximately US $470,000 “disappeared” from club coffers. Ferencváros' managing director and vice president were investigated, but said investigation was suspended in October 1999 with no charges filed. From 1991 to 1997, the Ferencváros budget increased twelvefold while income stagnated and then decreased. By December 1997, Ferencváros owed a total of approximately US $2.8 milion.

In September 1998, dodgy politician then-Minister of Agriculture József Torgyán and new Ferencváros president removed a large part of the Ferencváros debt, through companies close to the Ministry of Agriculture. Torgyán fought all effort to privatize the owning company FTC Ltd. In 2001, Ferencváros was given credit of approximately US $750,000. Later that year, 80% of Ferencváros ownership was purchased by Fotex, with promises of approximately US $11.25 million in investment over the next four years.

However, Fotex soon became wary of associating the brand name with a team rapidly becoming known for another disturbing feature of post-communist era soocer: hooliganism. July 2001 headlines screamed of an incident in which Ferencváros attacked supporters of Croatia's Hajduk Split before a Champions League match. This was chased by the single ugliest incident in Hungarian soccer history. After the Ferencváros/Debrecen match closing the 2002-2003 season, Ferencváros fans went on a tear, storming the pitch. Hooligans beat on Debrecen fans, players, coaches, and even members of their own team. Fotex left Ferencváros, taking the brand name “Fradi” (a nickname for the team), a brand on products from teevee programming to bad beer.

Before a UEFA Cup match in 2004, Ferencváros supporters attacked fans of UK club Millwall in downtown Budapest. While police literally stood and watched, a riot ensued in which Ferencváros supporters stabbed two Millwall backers. During the match, Millwall's black players were treated to racist abuse from Ferencváros quarters. Though some UEFA officials threatened a permanent ban on Ferencváros' participation in future UEFA Cups, no such action was taken.

Meanwhile, further investors came and went. One laughable/pitiable incident involved a cancer-cure research firm called Celladam which, though promising over US $7 million in investments, never delivered a schilling. Celladam representatives were allowing to sit on the board for four months before being ejected when apparent no money was coming.

And financial incompetence directly affected on-pitch results. In 2004, Ferencváros was scheduled against Albania's SK Tirana and the Czech Sparta in the Champions League. Again (or maybe “as always”), Ferencváros was in financial trouble and sold its best player, Zoltán Gera. Afterward, Ferencváros representatives lied to press about the price tag on Gera. Ferencváros played without Gera in Prague and lost. End of Champions League hopes.

One major Hungarian newsweekly declared that “the situation of Ferencváros today is almost hopeless.” Estimates place Ferencváros debt is over US $4.7 million. To assuage this debt, Ferencváros must sell the land owned by the club and all shares in FTC Rt. In today's financial crisis at Ferencváros, the club is redefining “stripped down.” In the offseason, Ferencváros used a second-division squad's bus to get to an exhibition match.

A new prospective buyer is real estate developer and market research company HI Grupo of Madrid. HI Grupo plans to build a new stadium for Ferencváros according to UEFA regulations alongside a shiny new entertainment center.

And while the Ferencváros brain trust waits for a tender offer, Ferencváros fans must watch their Green Eagles play against a lower level of competition than they've ever seen. Ferencváros has weathered the economics of 19th century capitalism and 20th century communism. Can they take the supercapitalism of the 21st?

The wait is almost over, as the soccer matches that will help determine who plays for the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing, Olympics draws near. Soccer (or football as it is called in most of the world) is one of the few sports that will get under way before the Opening Ceremonies of the games even happens, and the excitement will be heard around the world as the matches begin. Soccer will begin play with the women's side on Wednesday, August 6th, and the men's games will start on Thursday, August 7th. These dates are on Beijing time, so keep that in mind when you are figuring in the time differences, as Beijing, China is 15 hours ahead of the Pacific Time Zone in the United States. If you are the east coast of the United States, Beijing will be 12 hours ahead for your scheduling. Keeping that in mind, many of the events shown live will be during the middle of the night, but the main competitions will be re-shown on tape delay through NBC prime-time.

On the first day of competition (August 6th) the women's games will start at 5:00pm (17:00 hours) with three matches being played simultaneously around China. Immediately following those games, there will be another set of games, with a 1 hour break before game 2 gets started. It will insure that every team plays their first game on that day. The following day, the schedule will repeat for the men, except with 4 groups playing at the same times. All of the locations are split up by their groups, with 3 women's groups (each with 4 teams) and 4 men's groups (each with 4 teams) that will play these preliminary rounds to decide who goes into the single elimination rounds leading up to the medal games.

Here is what the Groups will look like:

The Men's Side:

Group A: Cote D'Ivoire (A1), Argentina (A2), Australia (A3), Serbia (A4)
Group B: Netherlands (B1), Nigeria (B2), Japan (B3), USA (B4)
Group C: China (C1), New Zealand (C2), Brazil (C3), Belgium (C4)
Group D: Republic of Korea (D1), Cameroon (D2), Honduras (D3), Italy (D4)

The Women's Side:

Group E: China (E1), Sweden (E2), Argentina (E3), Canada (E4)
Group F: DPRK (F1), Nigeria (F2), Germany (F3), Brazil (F4)
Group G: Norway (G1), USA (G2), Japan (G3), New Zealand (G4)

To determine who would be playing on the Men's side, preliminary competitions were held around the world, and teams had to qualify to get a spot in the Olympics. The split up of the teams came from The Host team automatically qualifying (China), 3 additional teams from Asia, 3 teams from Africa, 2 teams from North and Central America, 2 teams from South America, 1 Oceanic team, and 4 European teams to comprise of the 16 teams.

On the women's side, the 12 teams that qualified for the Olympics were determined from the Host team, 2 additional teams from Asia, 1 team from Africa, 2 teams from North and Central America, 2 teams from South America, 1 Oceanic team, and 3 European teams.

The Competition

Each of the sides gets a world ranking of where they rank compared to the rest of the world, and the draw for groups is actually random. This leads to a number of really good teams being in the same group as others, and could lead to some really good preliminary matches leading up to the single-elimination rounds.

Currently the top ranked teams in the world (on the men's side) are:

1. Spain
2. Italy
3. Germany
4. Brazil
5. Netherlands
6. Argentina

Notable others:

30. U.S.A.
83. China

The top ranked teams on the women's side are:

1. U.S.A.
2. Germany
3. Sweden
4. Brazil
5. Norway
6. Korea

Notable Others:

14. China

The Past

Italy is the defending FIFA World Cup Champions, and definitely have something to prove as the Olympics roll around. France came in second, with Germany third, and Portugal fourth place.

Regarding the 2004 summer Olympics, Argentina took home the gold, with Paraguay taking home the Silver, and Italy winning the Bronze medal respectively. On the women's side, the United States won the Gold, Brazil the Silver, and Germany won the Bronze Medal.

With so many world-class players, selecting a World Soccer Team of the Decade for 2000-2010 is almost an impossible job. The debate could go on endlessly and there is no true perfect format for selecting players. This list uses a combination format by choosing from attributes such as club team play, national team play, longevity, statistics, and technique. In addition to the starting 11 players, there are 7 substitute selections to make a full squad of 18 players.

Starting Team: (4-2-2-2 formation)

Goalkeeper

Gianluigi Buffon (Italy, Juventus)

The least controversial choice of the whole team, Buffon is easily the best goalkeeper of the decade and the modern soccer generation. A very smooth net minder, Buffon won 4 Italian league championships, or scudettos, with Juventus and a runner's up UEFA Champions League Medal in 2003. In addition, his play and leadership were integral to Italy's winning the World Cup in 2006. Although very tall at 6 feet 4 inches, Buffon has cat-like reflexes, great agility, and incredible hands. His inspired play seems to instill a sense of calm and confidence over his defensive partners.

Right Back

Lilian Thuram (France, Juventus)

Through classy defending that combined athleticism, physicality, positioning, and technique, Thuram excelled in both central defense and wide right for club and country. After a wonderful performance for Les Bleus at World Cup 1998, Thuram played an integral part in France's European Championship 2000 team and World Cup runner's up team in 2006. Thuram was also a beast for Juventus in the first half of the decade as they lifted two Serie A titles.

Central Defense

Rio Ferdinand (England, Manchester United)

A very steady defender who has never disappointed for club or country at the highest stage, Rio starts in central defense for the World Team. Ferdinand combines great size at 6 feet 4 inches and athleticism with excellent composure on the ball. With Manchester United, Ferdinand has won 4 Premier League titles and 1 UEFA Champions League title over the decade. At World Cup 2002 and 2006, Ferdinand put in outstanding performances as England reached the quarterfinals of both tournaments.

Central Defense, Captain

Paolo Maldini (Italy, A.C. Milan)

Maldini is the choice as captain of this squad and starter at central defense. A giant at A.C. Milan, he helped them lift the UEFA Champions League trophy in 2003, 2007, and a runner's up medal in 2005. Although Maldini retired from the Italian national team in 2002, he led them a few minutes away from winning EURO 2000 and to the second round of the 2002 World Cup. Maldini was selected UEFA Champions League defender of the year in 2007 at the age of 38. Maldini brings wonderful, natural defensive abilities and an amazing presence to every defense that he has anchored. He may be the best defender of all time.

Left Back

Roberto Carlos (Brazil, Real Madrid

An explosive player with great pace, powerful free kicks, and tenacious defending, Roberto Carlos mans the left back spot for the World Team of the Decade. A mainstay starter for Brazil and Real Madrid, he won one World Cup trophy, one Champions league trophy, and three La Liga titles over the course of the decade. Roberto Carlos showed excellent consistency by starting over 30 league games for Real Madrid in 10 straight years.

Right Midfield, Deep

Steven Gerrard (England, Liverpool)

Gerrard's never-ending motor, penetrating runs, and powerful shot will run the deep lying right midfield position for the Decade Team. A legend at Liverpool and stalwart in midfield for England's national team, Gerrard won two FA Cup trophies, one UEFA Cup, and one Champions League trophy during the decade. His incredible performance in the 2005 UEFA Champions League final against A.C. Milan showed his true grit and influence on a team as he led Liverpool back from a 3-0 deficit to win in extra time.

Left Midfield, Deep

Patrick Vieira (France, Arsenal, Juventus)

Vieira was a monster in the middle of the field for Arsenal and France throughout the decade. An incredibly powerful player who could break up opposition attacks and make foraging runs to get involved on offense, Vieira sits next to Gerrard in the deep lying midfield role. Vieira helped France win the European Championship in 2000 and reach the final of the 2006 World Cup. For Arsenal, Vieira captained the squad to Premier League titles in 2002, 2004 and FA Cup titles in 2002, 2003, and 2005.

Attacking Central Midfield

Zindedine Zidane (France, Real Madrid

Three-time FIFA World Player of the Year, Zizou played as if the ball was attached to his foot by a string. His legendary technique, touch, and imagination make Zidane an easy choice in the attacking midfield role. Zidane flourished as maestro of the France national team during the decade and led them to a European Championship in 2000 and a runner's up finish at the 2006 World Cup. Twice the FIFA World Player of the Year in this decade, Zidane led Real Madrid to one La Liga title, one UEFA Champions League title, and one Intercontinental Cup final.

Attacking Midfield

Ronaldhino (Brazil, Barcelona, A.C. Milan)

Although a slightly different player after losing some pace in the latter part of the decade, Ronaldhino is easily one of the most gifted and influential players of the decade and entire generation. As part of a great attacking line-up, he helped Brazil lift the 2002 World Cup trophy and a FIFA Confederations Cup trophy in 2005. With Barcelona, he won two league titles and one UEFA Champions League title. When on form and in full flight, he was simply unstoppable.

Forward

Ronaldo #9 (Brazil, Real Madrid)

Possibly the most talented forward of all time at his peak, Ronaldo had some ups and downs throughout the decade. However, his highs were well worth his inclusion in this squad to include a great run to help Brazil win the 2006 World Cup and Real Madrid win two La Liga titles. Ronaldo is the all-time leading scorer in World Cup play and may add to his total in South Africa during the 2010 World Cup. Ronaldo is an incredibly talented player with great touch, power, explosion, and scoring ability. With no disrespect to Cristiano Ronaldo, younger fans need to watch some clips of Ronaldo #9 in true form to see who the “real” Ronaldo is.

Forward

Thierry Henry (France, Arsenal, Barcelona)

Henry is a player with great pace, creativity, vision, and calmness under pressure that easily makes this first team. He led France to the European Championship in 2000 and a runner's up finish at the 2006 World Cup. With unprecedented success at two major international clubs, Henry starred for both Arsenal and Barcelona over the decade. His teams have won two English Premier League titles, one La Liga title, and one UEFA Champions League trophy over the decade.

Substitutes

Ruud Van Nistelooij (Holland, Manchester United, Real Madrid)

Ruud is an out and out striker that can score. He scored loads of goals over the decade in some of the highest quality of competition. Ruud is a three-time UEFA Champions League top scorer and lead scorer in both the Premier League and La Liga over the decade. In this team, Ruud would be a potential late replacement for Ronaldo.

Lionel Messi (Argentine, Barcelona)

The world's best player in 2009, Messi just misses the cut for the first 11. His role as a super-sub could bring great pace to the team as a replacement for Ronaldhino. Messi may be the quickest player ever with the ball at his feet.

Claude Makelele (France, Real Madrid, Chelsea)

A stalwart in defensive midfield for club and country, Makelele would be a great sub for any of the midfield players in this team. He was the engine of many great Real Madrid and Chelsea sides of this decade.

Cafu (Brazil, Roma, A.C. Milan)

An incredibly consistent and fit player, Cafu had a tremendous overall decade. He mostly played right back but probably could play left back in this side as well. Cafu was on many winning sides this decade to include Roma's Serie A title in 2001, Milan's Champions League in 2007, and the World Cup winning Brazil side of 2002.

Oliver Kahn (Germany, Bayern Munich)

A very consistent and intimidating goalkeeper who could be counted on to make amazing saves every game, Kahn is a capable backup for Buffon. Kahn led Bayern Munich to 6 Bundesliga titles over the decade and one Champions Leage title. In great form during the 2002 World Cup, he led Germany to the runner's up trophy.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal, Manchester United, Real Madrid)

A tricky player with great speed who continued to improve throughout the decade, Cristian Ronaldo could be a replacement anywhere at midfield or forward in this team. He was at the peak of his career in 2008 when he won a UEFA Champions League title and FIFA World Player of the Year with Manchester United.

Pavel Nedved (Czech Republic, Juventus)

Neved had some amazing years with Juventus winning multiple Serie A and Italian Cup trophies over the decade and always was dangerous for his Czech Republic National Team. A fiery wing midfield player with great skill, Nedved could fit in at any position in midfield.

William Morrison Supermarkets today reported slowing sales growth in Q1 and said it remains cautious on the economic and consumer environment.

Morrison has put UK rivals Tesco, J Sainsbury and Asda into the shade with its sales performance in the past two years. However, falling commodity prices have left UK supermarket chains fighting on two fronts. Food inflation boosts the chains take at the tills and its virtual elimination has left chains having to sell more goods.

Sales at stores open at least a year, excluding fuel and value added tax, rose 0.8% in the 13 weeks to May 2 from a year earlier, or 5.2% including fuel. This compares with growth of 4.6% in the last quarter and 8.2% in the first quarter of fiscal 2009.

Finance Director Richard Pennycook said the retailer remains a “nose ahead” of its rivals, but admitted that the year to come will be challenging.

“We are still going to be ahead of the pack. (But there is) very significant slowing in the market.”

“If we felt we weren't a notch ahead in the market we would be anxious about that. We are up against the toughest like-for-likes in the industry,” he said. “We are no more than satisfied. In a better market, these sort of numbers would not be satisfactory.”

Pennycook said it could be assumed that inflation would pick up in the months ahead, but that the company takes a prudent view. “We don't see much inflation around in 2010. This current flat picture is what we should plan for in 2010.”

As well as flat inflation, the retail industry fears that spending and confidence will come under pressure from forecasted post-general election tax hikes, public spending cuts and unemployment as the new government reins in borrowing.

“2010 will give us a lot of headwinds,” Pennycook said. He added that the retailer remains focused on value and low prices and keeps its outlook unchanged, as British shoppers emerge from a deep recession.

Morrison's new Chief Executive Dalton Philips joined the company on May 1 and will give his initial thoughts on group strategy alongside interim results in September, Pennycook said.

Shares in Morrison, which have fallen 8% in the past four weeks amid the general concerns, slipped on the news to 274 pence, in a higher London market, valuing the company at 7.27 billion.

“The like-for-like sales growth is frankly disappointing. The company is underperforming,” Shore Capital analyst Clive Black said. Black noted that the stellar performance of rival Tesco Plc is “starting to hurt the whole industry.”

Analysts also see short-term difficulties. Numis Securities analyst Andrew Wade, with a hold rating on the stock, said the present no-inflation environment is likely to curtail the availability of promotions in the coming quarters.

Collins Stewart analyst Greg Lawless added: “If Morrisons…is winning market share, this suggests that the underlying market is barely flat, with perhaps both Asda and possibly Sainsburys in negative territory,” .

“There are some big strategic decisions to be taken (internet, loyalty card, non-foods), which may provide a drag on margins and returns in the short-term,” he said.

Morrison's market share for the 12 weeks to April 18 was 11.8%, up from 11.4% in the same period last year, according to Kantar Worldpanel data. That compares with 30.5% for Tesco, 16.9% for Asda Group Ltd. and 16.4% for J Sainsbury Plc.
